Nappy rash is caused mainly by prolonged contact with moisture, so a barrier cream does the most useful job available: keeping wetness off the skin between changes.
Frequent changes, a few minutes of nappy-free time and patting rather than rubbing dry all help alongside.
Speak to your GP, health visitor or pharmacist if the rash is severe, spreading, blistered, or doesn't improve within a few days — thrush and bacterial infections need different treatment. Patch test before first use.
