Children's skin is thinner and more vulnerable to UV damage than adults', and sun damage is cumulative over a lifetime. Sunburn in childhood is strongly associated with later skin cancer risk, which makes daily protection a genuine health measure rather than a holiday nicety.
Apply generously 20 minutes before going out, and reapply every two hours and after swimming or towelling. Keep babies under 6 months out of direct sunlight altogether rather than relying on sunscreen.
Patch test first. Avoid the eye area.
