Baby massage after a bath is one of the most enjoyable parts of the day, and there's decent evidence it supports settling and sleep as part of a consistent bedtime routine. A light oil makes it easier on delicate skin than a thick cream.
Newborn skin needs very little in the first few weeks — plain water is fine, and oils are best introduced once the skin barrier has matured a little.
Patch test before first use. Speak to your health visitor or GP if your baby has eczema or persistent dryness. Avoid on broken skin.
